KICK THE LOWS

OK, this tip is for all of you who are already up on sidechain techniques – particularly using sidechain compression on your bass track, keyed to the kick drum. What I’ve discovered is that, at times it’s useful to use sidechained filtering instead.

If this Auto filter is sitting on your bass track, it will remove low frequencies from the bass every time the kick hits. This is particularly useful when you have a bright, aggressive bass sound and you want to keep the high frequencies in tact while controlling the low end.
