Lately, I’ve been making a lot of aggressive bass sounds with lots of high end buzz and fuzz. For some saturation insanity in your basses, Live’s Saturator used in Waveshaper mode is pretty awesome.
What scares folks away from the Waveshaper tends to be the 6 boxes in the lower right that come to life when this mode is selected. For starters, you don’t need to know a whole lot to get some nasty sounds going. First, crank up the Saturator’s main Drive control (not the one in the waveshaper section). Then, start dialing up the Curve to taste.
Now, get the Color section into the Mix. Sweep the Base control up and you’ll hear the frequencies driving the Waveshaper change. Sweet.
Finally, if you’re working with bass, you’ll need to pull the Dry/Wet control down quite a bit if you want to retain any low end.
