AUTOMATION EDITING: CLEAR AND PRESERVE

This is a good one. You might have never realized it, but when using the Clear Envelope command, the position of the insertion point determines what value the cleared envelope is set to.

For example, let’s say you’re recording a performance and while you do you make a bunch of parameter tweaks to a synthesizer until you get it just right. After recording, you want to get rid of the automation in the synth, but have all of the parameters remain in their final positions – not the original ones.

Clear Envelope can be used to do just that. First, place the insertion point at the place along the timeline where the sound is just right:

Then use Clear Envelope to remove all the automation, and each parameter will be left at it’s value at this point in the timeline.
